2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter: A Factory-Ready Overlander Set to Revolutionize Off-Road Adventure

Unveiling the new standard for off-road adventure: the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter. As Toyota's first purpose-built overlanding rig, the Trailhunter made its initial appearance as a concept at the 2022 SEMA show, piquing interest among automotive enthusiasts. Now, responding to the growing demand for ready-to-go overlanding vehicles, Toyota brings the Trailhunter from concept to reality - a rugged vehicle designed to master the trails straight off the dealership lot.

Engineered for optimum control and load capacity, the Trailhunter incorporates Old Man Emu (OME) 4x4 Suspension by ARB. Moreover, the vehicle's Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system adjusts damping forces according to changing road conditions, resulting in a luxuriously smooth ride. The AVS features built-in actuators in the shock absorbers that continuously modify the damping force based on road conditions.

The Tacoma Trailhunter houses an impressive 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain, bolstered by a 48-hp electric motor and a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack, creating an impressive 326 horsepower and a staggering 465 lb-ft of torque. This power system nearly doubles the torque output of the previous-generation truck with a V6 engine. Official fuel economy estimates are yet to be revealed.

For optimal convenience, the Trailhunter incorporates an integrated high-output air compressor in the bed for quick tire inflation after an extended off-road journey. Aided by an extensive camera system, drivers can effectively spot potential obstacles on the trail via the Multi-Terrain Monitor, displayed on the available 14-inch touchscreen.

The Trailhunter grade adds some serious grit to Toyota's lineup of robust trucks, taking the brand's legendary durability and reliability a step further. The Trailhunter package includes position sensitive 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks with rear external reservoirs, a steel rear bumper, robust rear recovery points, and a bed utility bar with removable MOLLE panels - all co-developed with Australian-based ARB.

The Tacoma Trailhunter also comes with an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, active traction control, and an electronic locking rear differential. The model is exclusive to Canada and comes standard with four-wheel drive.

For improved ground clearance, the Trailhunter is equipped with OME shocks and 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires that lift the vehicle an additional two inches in the front and one and a half inches in the rear. For enhanced protection, the model includes rock rails and a multitude of hot-stamped high-strength steel skid plates.

Finally, the Trailhunter is packed with features for a comfortable and convenient adventure. An integrated 20-inch LED light bar, white/yellow color switching LED fog lamps, and a robust AC inverter for powering devices are among the utility features, with pre-wiring for additional accessories included. The Trailhunter truly embodies the spirit of off-the-grid adventure, straight from the factory.
