Toyota sales set the standard for electrified vehicles in Canada in 2021

Toyota once again confirmed its place as the segment leader in Canada when it comes to electrified vehicles. Not only the Toyota managed to increase its electrified vehicle sales last year despite the challenges faced by the entire automotive industry, but Toyota actually nearly doubled its electrified vehicle sales in 2021.

Total electrified vehicle sales for Toyota in 2021 reached 55,886 units, an increase of 84.4% compared to 2020. Toyota hybrid vehicles all had an exceptional year, but highlights include the Toyota Corolla Hybrid which sold 4,522 units for an increase of 82.9%. The popular three-row Toyota Highlander Hybrid, with 5,271 units sold, registered an increase of 35.1%.

“On behalf of Toyota Canada, I’d like to thank our customers for their continued confidence and trust in Toyota and Lexus,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of Toyota Canada Inc. “I’d also like to thank our Canadian dealers and their dealership staff for their exceptional effort and focus on meeting the needs of our customers in 2021.”

The rest of the Toyota lineup also did very well, registering a 17.7 percent increase in sales, reaching 225,215 units sold. This is just 5% shy of Toyota Canada's all-time record year in 2019.

Toyota should continue to do very well in 2022, especially with the arrival of the Hybrid Toyota Tundra and the first ever fully-electric Toyota vehicle, the Toyota bZ4X.
